Global Head of Maritime Chartering and Freight Operations

As such, we now seek the appointment of a high calibre Global Head of Maritime Chartering and Freight Operations to tackle this exciting new position.

Responsibilities:

• This is a substantial change management role where you must be able to lead high impact chartering and maritime freight initiatives within a highly commercial environment at a time of major change.

• Based ideally within the Netherlands or alternatively within other parts of Europe – UK, Belgium, Germany, Spain etc and reporting to the Global Commercial VP, you will be responsible for the creation, delivery and implementation of the organisation’s vessel and freight strategy from both a commercial and operational perspective.

• Leading the chartering function, you will create the appropriate infrastructure and lead activities both from a global and regional perspective (i.e. deep sea and coasters), with an emphasis on wet bulk products but also to include dry bulk.

• You will ensure the organisation’s trading portfolio is supported by a nimble, robust and cost effective vessel and logistics strategy, which is coherent with the latest marine fuel, carbon abetment and safety regulations.

• You will lead a diverse range of commercial and operational activities to include;

 Manage overall vessel strategy including formulated business strategies on the chartering of vessels together with the execution of various types of chartering contracts.

 Incorporate market best practice for vessel chartering to include; vessel risk, bunker fuel risk, management systems implementation etc.

 Establish long term commercial bunker agreements and partnerships with large liners and ship owners.

 Maintain a global network with key internal and external stakeholders to include; ship owners and operators, authorities, OEM and partners.

 Lead all commercial chartering and freight initiatives including contract management, freight optimisation and cost reduction.

• This position will also support the commercial efforts of the business around the use of ammonia as a fuel to advance the decarbonisation of shipping.

Person

• This exciting role demands a subject matter expert in chartering and vessel management, who can pull together a range of best in class initiatives.

• You will have a highly consistent track record in the delivery of a broad range of chartering/maritime/vessel/freight management activities both from a commercial and operational perspective.

• Ideally degree qualified in an appropriate chemical/mechanical/electrical engineering discipline, you will have significant expertise in the handling of gas/wet/liquid bulk products i.e. LPG, ammonia, LNG, oils, chemicals etc. Dry bulk experience in addition would also be advantageous.

• As such, you will have led all end to end chartering and freight management activities for a substantial best in class organisation. Alternatively, you may also be working for a major ship owner/operator.

• Practical and tenacious with the ability to work at pace, you will be the type who can inspire and influence those around you and have the strength of character to act as a true champion of change.

• You will be an outstanding leader of people and will relish the opportunity to tackle this multi-faceted role and achieve major breakthroughs in chartering and freight management performance.
